Clayton County Fire &
Emergency Services Explorer Post 701 strives to give young men and women the opportunity to explore career choices
and learn about the fire and emergency medical services field. We accomplish
this by conducting weekly training sessions, in which Explorers learn safety, firefighting tactics and emergency medical procedures
used by professional firefighters.
The ultimate goal for members of Post 701 is to earn the privilege of visiting a fire station and responding to real emergency calls under the supervision of our fire personnel. This is key to learning about the daily life of a firefighter. Explorers who have earned ride-along privileges can respond to calls and assist at emergency scenes. Clayton County Fire & Emergency Services initiates Explorer Post 701 by matching our people and program resources to the interests of young people in the community. The result is a program of activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow, and develop in the career of firefighting. Fire exploring provides experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults by giving back to their community. Each explorer benefits from participation in our program in their own unique way and will leave the program with several certifications such as: CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), CPR and AED training, basic first aid, fire tactics, ropes & knots, search & rescue, confined space and blood pressure readings. Our training schedules are designed to challenge the explorers to not only learn firefighting skills, emergency medical procedures, and participate in community service experiences, but also participate in family get-togethers, community outreach, and fun team building group activities, which develop positive social skills and increase their communication comfort level. It also benefits our department by allowing us to evaluate potential recruits that could be hired when they reach
the age of 18. There have been over 25 Explorers hired into our department and other fire & emergency services since Clayton
County fire exploring started in 1990.  |
